Self Guided
A long but easy ride that follows the entire perimeter of the Montello, among river, woods, and landscapes linked to the Great War.
Starting from Pederobba, following back roads and cycle paths towards the Piave, with the option of a stop along the river.
After crossing the Grave del Piave, the route gently climbs along the panoramic road of the Montello and the Prese, passing bunkers, monuments, and historic sites. Our Local Guide !!
ABOUT the PIAVE and MONTELLO
Explore the picturesque landscapes of the Piave and the Montello, where nature reigns supreme. Cycle along the paths that follow the river and then climb the wooded slopes of the Montello to admire panoramic views and savour authentic local flavours. Immerse yourself in the history of the Great War and local traditions. The Monte Grappa massif, the Piave river, and the Montello hill were the stage of heroism and tragedy during the Great War. Among these woods and mountains and along the banks of the Piave, the bloody Battle of the Solstice was fought in 1918, bringing the world conflict to an end.
To honour the brave actions of the Arditi, a shrine was erected on Isola Verde, known as the Island of the Dead. The brilliant white gravel of the riverbed and the willows growing along the banks provide a habitat for birds such as the golden eagle. The Montello, with its red earth, karst sinkholes, caves, and springs, bears witness to thousands of years of geological history. Moreover, its acacia and chestnut woods, once a timber reserve for the Serenissima Republic of Venice, now serve as a biodiversity refuge for wild boar, deer, and foxes. Nature and History merge between Montello and Piave: the remains of the ancient Abbey of Sant'Eustachio emerge among the trees just steps from the shrine in memory of the aviation hero Francesco Baracca.

Isola dei Morti
A place of remembrance honouring the sacrifice of thousands of very young soldiers, the nineteen-year-old Boys of '99

Le Prese del Montello
A network of cross-cutting roads across the entire green hill. A paradise for cyclists.

Ponte di Vidor
Destroyed several times during the war, it now serves as the link between the Prosecco Hills and the Treviso plain
